Two Paths, One Budget: The Question That Keeps Me Up

I can only speak to our situation, though. If you're a seasonal business with variable occupancy, the ROI might differ.

4. The Quality Question: One Vendor’s Promise vs. Another’s Track Record

This is the hardest part. A cheap fan from an unknown supplier might fail in 18 months. You replace it. Labor cost: $150. Product cost: $40. Total: $190. Plus the headache.

A Panasonic fan with light costs more upfront, but the motor has a 6-year warranty (as of January 2025). The LED module is rated for 30,000 hours. I haven’t had a single failure in three years across 12 units.

That unreliable supplier I used for my first bulk order? The one with the handwritten invoice? The fan failed, the invoice got rejected by finance, and I ate the cost out of my department budget. My experience is only with about 20 similar units, but I know what I’d pick now.

Here’s my honest take:

  • Choose Panasonic smart solutions if: You’re planning a new build or major renovation, you want to reduce energy waste, and you’re comfortable with a bit of upfront setup (sensor pairing, hub integration). The long-term savings and reliability are real.
